Dowell was an all-PAC-10 player at USC and drafted in the second round by the Washington Bullets. But a torn Achilles tendon kept him from realizing his NBA dreams. Christian played collegiately at Indiana State and Kentucky Wesleyan. Evie Waddell played for Duquesne. Fast forward years later: Thomas coached Roosevelt and future Michigan State star Branden Dawson in the 2010 3A title game, a 65-62 overtime loss to Cody Zeller and Washington.
